Summary: Mary (Gardner) Marshall graduated from Radcliffe College (A.B. 1925, A.M. 1926). During her college years she worked for J. Doddridge Brannan, Bussey Professor of Law at Harvard Law School.
Collection consists mainly of correspondence among family members and includes courtship correspondence of J. Doddridge to Julia, 1868-1875, and of Elsa and her future husband, Courtenay Hemenway, 1908-1912. Also included are photographs, genealogical material, a diary, commonplace and wedding books. Subjects include the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (MD and Washington, D.C.).
